UNESCO celebrates World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2025 with an event on 4 March at its Headquarters in Paris. The theme of this year’s celebration is "Unleashing the power of engineers to advance the Sustainable Development Goals’’.
UNESCO is dedicated to elevating engineering capacities, while celebrating the inspiring achievements of women and young people who are reshaping the field. By showcasing how youth are taking on contemporary engineering challenges and how professional engineers are shattering gender-based stereotypes, UNESCO aims to inspire the next generation of engineers.
This year’s World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) focuses on how engineers can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
About the event
On World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, UNESCO and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) will convene an event at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, organised under the umbrella of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD).
This global gathering will bring together policymakers, leading scientists, engineers, industry representatives, and international organizations to explore the transformative role of engineering in advancing the SDGs). Through expert panel discussions, the event will highlight engineering’s contribution to shaping policies for sustainable development, strengthening capacities, addressing gender disparities in the field, and advancing digital transformation, energy solutions, and infrastructure development. The event will also showcase the results of the World Engineering Day Hackathon, celebrating youth-driven innovations.
